A two paced 5mile run

Time: 1.30pm
Route: Paisley Canal
Distance: 5miles
Time Run: 36mins 45secs
Mile splits: 7.22, 6.24, 7.15, 6.18, 7.02 (av pace 6.53)

I decided with a couple of days to go before the Nigel Barge 10k to do a 5 mile run but to run the 2nd and 4th miles at 10k pace. So that is what I did. It also made me realise that my goal for 2008 for a 10k is really daft. To run a sub 38mins I’d have to run each mile at 6.07. There is no way I can run that fast these days. A sub 39mins would be 6.16pace and a sub 40mins is 6.26pace. So I think I should re-adjust my goal and aim for a sub 39min 10k. I hope you don’t think I’m cheating but I didn’t really think it through when I did that one!! To be honest I think a sub 39mins is a big enough challenge so it may be all academic anyway.

I have set out my running schedule for January on my google calendar. Click here to have a look.
