I was asked by FitnessFootwear.com to write a review of the Inov-8 Roclites …..
Two years ago I entered and trained for the West Highland Way Race, a 95 mile ultra marathon from Milngavie (north of Glasgow) to Fort William. One of the first things I needed kit wise was a pair of running shoes that would be suitable for the distance and terrain. I tried a few different pairs before finding the right shoe for me.
The route covers a lot of different terrain including grass, woodland trails, rocky paths, road, mud and goes up and down very steeply! So it is not surprising that there are many favourites when it comes to what footwear to use. The first year I ran the race I ended up running in road shoes as I was carrying an injury and thought they would be the best option. I completed the race in 22hrs 45mins but finished with loads of blisters all over my feet and realising I needed better shoes for the race in 2008.
A fellow whw runner recommended the Inov-8 Roclites and from the moment I first wore them I was convinced I’d found the right shoes for me. I wore them for my entire off road training runs and for the Highland Fling Race (53miles) in April as well as the full West Highland Way Race in June.
Over all these miles I haven’t suffered with a single blister. I cover my toes in Sudocrem and wear two pair of socks – a thin cotton pair of ankle socks and a thicker pair on top.
The Roclites cope really well with all the different types of terrain on the whw route. The grip is good, the cushioning excellent and they feel very comfortable even when worn for the 19hrs 59mins 33secs without a change it took me to run the 2008 whw race!
I would thoroughly recommend the Inov-8 Roclites for anyone who is planning to run on a variety of terrains and is looking for a comfortable shoe with plenty of grip and stability.
