Thursday: Recovery Run

Time: 10.35am
Route: Paisley Canal
Distance: 6.01miles
Time Run: 49mins 13secs (average pace 8.12)

My legs felt heavy today after last night’s club run so I made sure I ran very comfortably but to be honest I’m not sure I could have gone any quicker if I’d wanted to! It was very windy as well and I was running right into the teetch of it over the last couple of miles.

Did you notice that it is less than 100 days before the whw 09 race? That’s just over 3 months. As I ran today I was thinking about how I feel at this point this year compared to this point last year. I concluded that the picture is a bit mixed.

On one hand some of my individual times are definitely faster than last year and I’ve been running strongly. But on the other hand I feel that I’ve not the same consistency as last year.

My mileage is slightly down but I’ve had some tougher long training runs especially the last one! Family wise it’s been a busy time with Dad’s death and then Josh & Laura’s wedding. Plus add in a different job and it’s not surprising things have been different this year. It will be interesting to see what effect all these things will have on my races.

So I feel the next couple of months is going to give me a better indication of where I’m at and whether it is realistic to aim for another sub 20 whw race. I will be running the whole whw route over the two months – Tyndrum to Fort William (Training Run 42 miles) on Sunday 29 March and then Milngavie to Tyndrum (Highland Fling Race 53miles) on Saturday 25 April.
