A creature of habit

I fully accept that I like routines and order and one of my ‘traditions’ is to run around Brodie Park as my last run before an ultra.

So I was up and out the house just after 6am this morning for an easy 5 mile run around the Park before work. I felt really good and made sure it was easy. I feel I’m as ready as I could be for Saturday.

The starters list is on the Highland Fling web site. I’m number 223. I’ve printed and laminated my notices for the drop bags and have my schedule printed and laminated as well! I just need to buy the food that I need and I’ll be sorted.

This will be the fourth time I’ve run the Highland Fling and I feel as excited about it as the first time. I’m not as nervous as the first time as I know I can do it but it’s such a great race over a great route. One of the things I love is the anticipation before the race with loads of questions to be answered such as …

Will I be able to achieve a pb this year?

Can I finish stronger from Beinglas?

Will I get my nutrition right?

Where will Richie and Thomas catch me?

How will I get on in the Super Vet Race?

Can I get anywhere near Bill Maxwell?

Can I finish ahead of Sharon?

Will Debbie catch me?

How will my friends get on, especially those doing it for the first time?

Who will be really pleased with their runs and who will be disappointed?

So many questions and so many stories to be told!

Just two days left if you want to enter my ‘Guess My Time’ Competition. I have 36 entries so far. I’ll post the guesses on Friday night.

Here is a picture of the birthday girls taken at Minski’s ….

Lots of questions, John. Are they in any particular order / priority?? Is it “better” to finish ahead of Bill Maxwell, or to get a PB? Or to finish ahead of Sharon, but have Richie pass you before Rowardennan? Or get your nutrition spot on, but finish behind Sharon?

So many questions…. so much to think about….. but have a great run in any event!

You never know who starts with stomach issues or gets injured. Those will be disappointed.
Maybe those who have set their targets too high (me). If the weather is good I hope they all enjoy the day.
