Running in Thailand 1

We had a really good journey to Thailand. All three flights were on time, our luggage arrived safely and we found our taxi to Dolphin Bay. We arrived at the Dolphin Bay Resort after the three hour ride from Bangkok at about 5.30pm, had a shower and something to eat then went for a stroll down the road for 45mins or so.

I discovered that the TV in our room was showing the Open live from St Andrews!! As we are 6 hours ahead I was struggling to stay awake to watch it but when I fell asleep Oosthuizen was well ahead and looked like he was going to win fairly comfortably.

I slept okay until about 3am when I woke and felt wide awake. So I read for a while. I’m reading Jeffrey Archer’s ‘Paths of Glory’ which is a novel based on George Mallory who died while attempting to climb Everest in 1924. It’s a great read and I’m really enjoying it.

When you see the equipment and resources that climbers have now compared to Mallory’s day it’s no wonder so many lost their lives.

At 6am I decided to go out for a run. I worked out a bit of a route which I thought would be about 6miles. In the end I turned down a road too early and it would have been nearer 5miles so I added on an extra mile. It was pretty warm and muggy but the best time to get out I reckon. I saw quite a few folk out and about on bikes and walking. I few dogs followed me as I ran past their ‘territory’ but thankfully none of them tried to bite me!!

When I got back I went for a swim in the resort pool. Ah this is the life!!

We are having an easy day today before going into Huan Hin tomorrow to meet our daughter Emma who is coming to stay with us for a few days half way through her trip to Indonesia. It will be so good to see her. This afternoon we had a Thai Massage which was good fun though a bit sore on the sole of my right foot that been bothering me for a few weeks now. Hopefully it did it some good.

Tomorrow we are off for the day on a snorkling trip which should be fun.

Seeing that piccie of you after your first run made me wonder what all running kit you have taken with you, especially what shirts? Will we get to see pix of your entire runing wardrobe over the next 3 weeks? Have you got your H Fling top? Or have you sold it on Ebay?? ;-). And I wonder if you will find a race or two to do?

Enjoy the “holiday” ~ and watch out for those dogs…..
