Pollok parkrun Race

Now that I have ‘retired’ from my Saturday swimming teaching it means I can run a few more parkruns. With a week to go before the Cateran 55 race I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of shape I’m in by running a flat out 5k.

I parked the car a couple of miles away so I could have an easy run before and after the race.  I was feeling pretty good so decided to push as hard as I could for as long as I could. I wore my watch but didn’t look at it at all.

I started with about 50 people ahead of me and then worked my way past people for the rest of the race. Two guys went past me on the final downhill run which often happens!

I ran 19:23 in February when I was doing more speed work so I thought it I could run under 20mins I’d be happy with that.

I stopped my watch on 19:31 and was told I was in 14th place so very pleased with that. I certainly feel in decent shape a week before the Cateran race.

One of the guys who went past me in the final run in so also a VM55-60 so I was 2nd in my category!!

Interestingly even though I was 8 seconds slower than February it was a slightly better age graded run as I’ve had a birthday since then!!

Thanks to those who have entered my Guess My Time Competition. So far I have 83 guesses. If you want to take part you have until 6pm on Thursday.

My plan for this week is two easy 5mile runs on Monday and Wednesday so hopefully I’ll be raring to go at 7am on Saturday morning.

  1. Great to see you putting in another good parkrun time, especially as it’s quite a bit faster for the previous 3 years.

    Will have to have a think about the prospect for the Cateran. BBC forecast looks good for the end of the week, doesn’t look to hot so could well be pretty close to ideal for you. All the indicators are that you are in great shape once more. Great place to be with less than a week to go.

    • Thanks Robert. To be fair most of my previous parkruns have been just after an ultra race rather than before so I wasn’t in the best 5k shape! But it was encouraging yesterday and I certainly feel in good shape for the Cateran.
