Monday – Club Fartlek Session
I was keen to do the club session but I was conscious that I had done almost 30 miles over the weekend so decided to run with our friend Tracey which hopefully would help her and stop me form pushing too hard. The session was 2 x (5mins, 4mins, 3mins, 2mins, 1min) with 1 min recoveries.
Tracey and I started each rep ahead of the three guys who were also running and once they had gone past we kept a steady pace going. I felt it was a good workout without putting too much stress on my tired legs!
Wednesday – Easy Run
I was going to busy over lunchtime at work so I ran at 11am. I ran my regular 6mile route around Pollok Park but went anticlockwise for a change rather than my normal clockwise direction.
My legs were still feeling a bit heavy but it was good to get out and run.
Friday – Easy run to pick up my car
I normally run on Thursday and try and cycle on Friday but I swapped it round as my car needed some work on it. So I dropped off the car in Renfrew and cycled to work and home. Then on Friday morning I ran to Renfrew to collect my car.
At one point I stepped awkwardly off a kerb and my left ankle was sore for a few minutes but nothing serious and I was soon running without any problem. But it just goes to show how easily it is to pick up an injury.
Saturday – Kilpatrick Hills run with Cammie
Cammie picked me at 7am and we were running by 7.30am. It was a bit chilly to start but very soon it warmed up and we had a beautiful morning. We opted for our 18 mile loop as neither of us wanted to climb over the deer fences again.
Cammie was running really well but I felt pretty sluggish. I felt I was working harder than I should be at the pace we were running. Cammie was so strong over the final mile or two and I couldn’t stay with him.
I’m really hoping that things will click soon and I will be running better again. My focus now is fully on the Fling and the whw instead of trying to train for a half marathon at the same time.
I’ve realised that I don’t respond well to trying to focus on two types of races at the same time. I’m not sure if that is the whole problem but it feels a factor.
At the end of January I was feeling in good shape and really happy with my training but February and March haven’t felt so encouraging but I’m hoping things will fall into place soon!
I was planning to run on the Braes this morning but I’ve decided to have a day off and see if that helps me recover. Next weekend is my bigger back to back on the whw so I was to have a few easy runs this week in preparation for that.
Anyway here are some photos from yesterday. We definitely had Scotland at its best.
