Guess My Time - Northern Traverse

With the race not too far away now it is time to open up my traditional ‘Guess My Time’ competition. This one is going to be the  hardest to guess so there will be a slight change to the rules.

I’m really looking forward to running this race. I’ve known about Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast route since the early 1970’s when I was first introduced to Wainwright’s Pictorial Guide to the Lakes. It is a route I always thought I would like to do. Having now done the whole route over three weekends I can confirm it is a varied and really interesting route.

James Thurlow (Open Adventure) has done a great job in creating a race on the route called ‘Northern Traverse’  The full route is 190 miles from St Bee’s in the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay in the North Yorks Moors.

The race starts at 9am on Saturday 12th May 2018 and competitors have until midnight on Wednesday 16th May 2018 to complete the race. That’s 111hrs!

Once again my good friends at http://www.ultramarathonrunning.com have offered a prize for the closest guess. Infact there are two prizes! Katrina and I weren’t able to finish the Hardmoors 55 as it was stopped due to the severe weather. So I asked whether I could roll the prize on to the Northern Traverse so basically there are two prizes. The closest can have first choice …

Here is the change … as there are two prizes and due to the face that it is going to be so difficult to guess I have decided to let everyone have two guesses!!

So you could have an optimistic one and a realistic (or pessimistic!) one. Or two optimistic one. It’s up to you but you can only win one prize.

As before there is only one guess per time so if your time is taken I’ll ask you to guess again.

To give you an idea here are my bronze, silver and gold times (plus a very optimistic Platinum time!!)

  • Bronze - finish by midday Wednesday (99hrs) so I can catch my train home!
  • Silver - under 81hrs (my good friend Andy Cole finished in 81:28:11 in 2016)
  • Gold - under 72hrs (under 3 days sounds a challenging yet realistic goal)
  • Platinum - under 70hrs (but everything and I mean everything would have to go right!!)

If you want to take part please send your guess by 5pm on Thursday 10th May 2018 by:-
